Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak suggested people to leave Facebook

Being a huge advocate of privacy and a punctual member in the growing list of tech titans in criticizing Facebook about privacy, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak unveiled his personal idea about Facebook again on an airport. Steve Wozniak was caught by a TMZ camera at the Reagan National Airport situated in Washington DC where he shared his idea on people using social media. He suggested that people should find a way to get off social networking sites in the world as fast as possible. Although we have seen numerous efforts made by Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg to increase the privacy of users on the social media website, this idea by the co-founder of one of the leading smartphone company in the world was quite amusing.

Wozniak said, “There are many different kinds of people and some of the benefits of Facebook are worth the loss of privacy.” He also said that to many people like him, he would recommend them to figure out a way to get off Facebook.

Wozniak also suggested that Facebook should offer users the choice to pay for an extra layer of security. Woz himself quit Facebook last year after the Cambridge Analytics scandal. And now he urges other people to do the same saying Facebook surely doesn’t keep our personal interactions confidential. According to him, the existence of connected devices today means your conversations might not be as private as you think they are. Woz recommends most people to ‘figure out a way to get off’ the site due to ongoing privacy concerns. ‘I’m worried about everything,’ Wozniak said. ‘I don’t think you can stop it, though.

Facebook and Instagram had 2.38 billion and 1 billion monthly active users respectively as of the first quarter of 2019. Wozniak said that most of the smart people would quit them if they are concerned about privacy.

Major tech websites including Google and Twitter were facing heavy scrutiny from the past few years due to privacy concerns. Due to this Apple continuously reminds people that user’s privacy is their main concern. Despite Wozniak’s big role in developing technology, he has always spoken out about the risks and limitations of today’s systems. According to him the only way to get the company to stop invading people’s privacy is to get out of it.
