Backed by rumors published by analysts at Barclays as well as publications like MacRumors, The Wall Street Journal and even the Taiwanese publication DigiTimes, the 3D Touch feature which was something of a cool and unique feature on iPhones is expected to be removed.
The news was floated by Barclays analysts after their trip to Asia and soon, the reports concerning Apple’s 3D Touch begin to be cited across the globe. As said, DigiTimes published a report concerning the removal of the feature in all 2019 iPhones citing industry sources.
Apple’s 3D Touch is a great feature that works with the help of touch and holds a gesture that the system analyzes and provides action accordingly. However, with the onset of iOS 13 and the upcoming iPadOS, a hint for a newly revamped system-defined touch and hold gesture has been recorded. In fact, the iOS 13 details about a new feature called ‘Quick Actions’ that allows users to touch and hold on the icons on the home screen that opens a preview much like 3D Touch. However, the difference is that instead of having a pressure-sensitive 3D Touch hardware which is required to use 3D Touch feature, the ‘Quick Actions’ feature works accompanying Haptic Touch functionality that was introduced with the iPhone XR last year.
The Quick Actions feature works by showcasing quick options or quick previews of messages, links, emails, and more on all iPad and iPhones supporting the upcoming iOS 13 and the iPadOS. As MacRumors points it up, the feature seems to have overshadowed the hardware-requiring 3D Touch feature. Also, Apple is finding out ways to reduce the cost of production of its iPhones which has become one of the major reasons behind the fall in sales figures. Eliminating the 3D Touch hardware would reduce the production cost and allow the Cupertino-based tech giant to make required changes in the pricing of its iPhones that are taking most of the hit in big markets like China and India.
iOS 13 is expected to roll out officially at the September 2019 launch event where Apple will be releasing the 2019 iPhones as well.
